WOF Kentucky Chapter
Established in Kentucky
Walking Outside Foundation (WOF) expresses its profound gratitude to all our dedicated volunteers and generous donors who have unwaveringly supported our efforts to establish our presence in Kentucky. Our chapter in Kentucky is situated within the Appalachia region, a central section of the Appalachian Mountains spanning 423 counties across 13 states. Encompassing an expansive area of 206,000 square miles, this region boasts the highest elevation in the United States east of the Mississippi River. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachia
The entire Appalachian region grapples with the challenges of rural poverty, impacting all of its 25 million inhabitants. Central Appalachia, the region where our Kentucky chapter is located, is home to individuals who experience the most severe poverty. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for as many of their lives as possible.
Prior to establishing a Kentucky chapter, we meticulously examined the numerous challenges that individuals face in this region. The affable and supportive communities that rely on one another compelled us to become an integral part of them. We gained a profound understanding of how residents here define the essence of living simple lives while genuinely relying on the land.
The beauty of the region here can be seen in many forms, as one would expect in an area encompassed by the Daniel Boone National Forest. Tourism to our local area supplies much of the economics here. Cumberland Falls State Resort Park alone sees nearly one million visitors annually.
As tourists from diverse regions visit our destination, they not only experience our hospitality but also acquire traditional, handcrafted craft arts created by local artisans. Promoting self-sufficiency is a core objective of WOF.
Our Kentucky chapter is honored to serve as a valuable resource for individuals within our community. As we endeavor to explore diverse fields of interest, we rely on your unwavering support to sustain our mission. We kindly request your consideration of making a donation today to ensure our continued efforts.
