Walking Outside Foundation Mission

The Walking Outside Foundation (WOF) is a multifaceted organization dedicated to expanding access to essential services, education, and skills training that support long-term self-sufficiency. The Foundation helps individuals build practical abilities in resource management, personal safety, health, and hygiene so they can better provide for themselves and protect their standard of living.

Who We Serve

WOF serves individuals and communities seeking greater independence, with a special focus on at-risk groups and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across youth, adult, and senior populations.

Core Programs and Skills

Programs are designed to promote independent living, life skills, quality of life, and responsible stewardship of Earth’s resources. Training may include:

·       Growing food and managing household resources

·       Raising animals for meat, eggs, and milk

·       Foraging for wild foods, including mushrooms

·       Learning responsible hunting and fishing practices

·       Building personal safety, health, hygiene, and physical self-awareness skills

·       Exploring the arts, mixed media, music, and production

Outreach and Support

The Foundation seeks to create a safe environment where people can live in harmony with creation, the Creator, the Earth, and one another. WOF also plans seasonal outreach to village populations in Alaska and remote areas of other states, offering life-skills education that encourages independence, self-sufficiency, and physical self-awareness.

Empowerment Through Partnership

WOF will research and implement programs that empower and employ rather than enable. When needed, the Foundation may contract instructors and professionals in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and other medical fields. WOF also seeks to contract with, and eventually employ, minority populations and individuals with special needs.
